Grey Melange 16-Strand Mohair & Raw Wool Oversized Chunky Cardigan
A dramatic, exceptionally thick hand-knitted cardigan with a sculptural, coat-like silhouette. Made from 16 strands of a mohair and 100% raw wool yarn combination, this striking grey mélange garment pairs a soft mohair halo with the substantial texture of natural, untreated wool. Each piece is made by hand in Bulgaria by Tiffy Mohair.
Design and materials
- Composition: a blend of mohair yarn and 100% raw wool yarn; exact blend percentages are not specified.
- Yarn: 16 strands, combined for a very thick, weighty knit.
- Colour: grey mélange, combining slightly different grey tones for depth (screen and lighting variations are possible).
- Texture: extremely chunky hand-knit with a rich combination of textured stitches, oversized cable-like columns and raised surface details.
- Fit: oversized longline, roomy coat-inspired cardigan with dropped shoulders.
- Collar: deep, broad, oversized shawl collar that folds around the neck; no hood.
- Fastening: wooden toggle-style buttons and loops at the front, allowing the cardigan to be worn open or closed. The natural wooden toggles may vary slightly.
- Sleeves: long, dramatically voluminous balloon-style sleeves with extra-large folded cuffs.
- Pockets: two roomy front patch pockets, integrated into the heavy textured knit.
- Weight: approximately 7 kg shipping weight per size; this is a substantial, heavy garment.
Important wool feel: the raw, untreated wool is naturally coarse and can feel itchy or prickly against bare or sensitive skin. Mohair may also prickle. We recommend wearing a base layer beneath the cardigan if you are sensitive to wool; please do not expect a silky, non-itchy fabric.
Measurements of the cardigan shown
- A — Body length: 80 cm / 31.5 in, measured from the top of the shoulder to the hem.
- B — Chest width: 68 cm / 26.8 in, measured flat from underarm to underarm (not circumference).
- C — Sleeve length: 66 cm / 26.0 in, measured from the underarm to the cuff.
All measurements are taken with the item laid flat and unstretched. Handmade garments may vary by around 2–5 cm because of the natural characteristics of the fibres and the knitting process. Very chunky knitting leaves less internal room than the outer measurements suggest; consider a larger size for a comfortable relaxed fit. How to order and customise
Choose from the available sizes XS to 9XL or contact us with your own measurements for a custom fit. You may also request a different mélange combination using the mohair and 100% wool shade cards shown in the photos. Custom dimensions, colours and other design changes may affect the price. Each cardigan is individually hand-knitted to order.
Production time: approximately 2–6 weeks.
Care for heavyweight natural knitwear
Handle this unusually heavy hand-knit carefully. Avoid hanging, pulling, rough friction and snagging the large stitches. Store folded on a shelf. Do not machine-wash or tumble-dry; professional gentle wool cleaning is recommended. Allow wet wool to dry flat with proper support.
Worldwide shipping
We ship internationally from Bulgaria with tracked services and standard or express options. Orders are normally dispatched once a week on Wednesday after the garment is completed. Express transit is typically 2–5 business days after dispatch, depending on destination and carrier. Combined shipping is available for multiple items. US customs duties and import taxes are prepaid (DDP).
Returns and exchanges
This is a custom-made garment. Made-to-order items are not returnable or exchangeable for a change of mind. This does not affect your rights if the item arrives damaged, defective or not as described. Please review all measurements before placing your order.
